Yasemin Çakal awarded political asylum residence permit in Switzerland
Switzerland has granted political asylum resident to Yasemin Çakal who killed her husband Özkan Kaymaklı in self-defense.
News Center- Yasemin Çakal, who spent three years in prison for killing her abusive husband Özkan Kaymaklı in self-defense, has been awarded a political asylum residence permit in Switzerland. After being released from prison she received threats. She left Turkey and went to Switzerland. She applied to the Swiss migration bureau for asylum. Yasemin Çakal has lived with her son in a refugee camp in the country.
Lawyers announced the decision
The Feminist Lawyers group announced the decision of the bureau on their Twitter account saying, ”In the application of Yasemin Çakal, who was considered 'guilty' for protecting her own life and not being killed, a groundbreaking development happened in Europe: Switzerland has granted a political residence permit for Yasemin in a category that is considered a 'common crime'”.
