Worsening security situation forces 570 people to flee South Kordofan

Due to the worsening security situation, 570 people were displaced from the city of Kadugli in South Kordofan, Sudan, during the past three days as the violent clashes between SAF and RSF continue.

News Center – South Kordofan State in Sudan is experiencing a worsening humanitarian crisis as the conflict continues. Hundreds of civilians have been forced to flee in extremely harsh conditions, without shelter or basic services, and heading to neighboring states in search of safety due to the deteriorating security situation.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) revealed yesterday, Sunday, January 11, that 570 people were displaced in the past three days from Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State in southern Sudan, due to the escalating security situation in the city.

The three states of the Kordofan region (North, West, and South) have recently witnessed violent clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), causing the displacement of tens of thousands of civilians. The IOM stated that its monitoring teams recorded the displacement of 570 people from Kadugli in South Kordofan as a result of the worsening security situation between January 8 and 10.

The organization explained in its statement that displaced people fleeing the clashes headed to areas in White Nile State in southern Sudan, noting that the security situation in the city remains tense and volatile. The organization added that its teams monitoring the displaced continue to closely follow developments in the city.

A few days ago, the organization announced that the number of displaced people in the three Kordofan states had risen to 64,890 between October 25 and December 30, 2025.

As the conflict in Sudan enters its third consecutive year, the humanitarian crisis is worsening. The conflict has caused the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of 13 million people both within and outside the country. The RSF control the capitals of the five Darfur states in the west, out of a total of 18 states in the country, while the SAF controls most of the remaining 13 states in the south, north, east, and center, including the capital, Khartoum.

The Darfur region constitutes about one-fifth of Sudan’s area of more than 1.8 million square kilometers, but the majority of Sudan’s 50 million inhabitants live in areas controlled by the Sudanese army.
