Women to gather for Melek Ayaz

Melek Ayaz was choked to death by her husband Süleyman Güngör. Women call on people to raise their voice to be the voice of Melek and her family.

İstanbul- Every day, women have been killed in Turkey. Melek Ayaz is one of the femicide victims. She was choked to death by her husband. Melek’s family called on women’s organizations and demanded support. Women’s organizations heard their call.
On January 18, 2021, Süleyman Güngörmüş and Melek Ayaz began to argue at their home located in Silivri district of İstanbul.  Süleyman Güngörmüş, reportedly having a gambling addiction and being sold his wedding ring to pay his debts, choked his wife Melek Ayaz to death. Melek’s sister said, “Even though he knew that she had asthma, he choked my sister to death. My sister became the last victim of femicide.”
For true justice
Istanbul Provincial Women's Councils of the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK), Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and Free Women’s Movement (TJA) have announced that they will raise their voice by demanding “Not Male Justice but Real Justice”. Today, women will gather in Şirinevler Square of İstanbul’s Bahçelievler District at 16.00. Women call on women to unite for those who lost their lives due to male violence and for Melek Ayaz.
