Sweida- Women volunteers in Sweida have formed a medical team with the support of women pharmacists, doctors and nurses in order to alleviate the burden on civilians, who cannot cover medical expenses.

In an interview with NuJINHA, Julnar Al-Abd, one of the volunteers, said that the team consisted of women doctors and nurses as well as pharmacists. “The high healthcare costs have become a burden on people. In addition, the Syrian government stops supporting a number of doctors, who work more than ten years. That’s why we decided to form such a team.”

They regularly monitor patient progresses

The team also provides a hotline service to the patients. “The patients can get in contact with us whenever they need medical support. We provide all kinds of healthcare services to them until they get better. We regularly monitor the progress of women and children suffering from diseases such as cancer, hypertension and diabetes. If necessary, we provide transportation to them so that they can go to hospital,” Julnar Al-Abd said, adding that they provide healthcare services 24/7.

‘We provide free healthcare services’

Maysaa Darwish is a nurse and a member of the team. She and other volunteers try to help women and children. Recently, infectious diseases such as influenza and flu are very common in the city and the team members do their best to help women and children. “We provide free healthcare services to women and children. Now, women and children do not need to go to hospital and cover high healthcare costs.”

‘I was treated at home’

Samiha Al-Madwar underwent a hysterectomy but then she suffered from severe bleeding. “The team sent a nurse to our home and provided the necessary care. I was treated at home,” said Samiha Al-Madwar, who contacted charitable organizations to cover the costs of the surgery since the team has no financial resources.
