Raperîn – For many years, Turkey has launched military operations in the Behdinan, Zap, Metina, and Avaşin regions of the Federal Kurdistan Region under the name of “cross-border operation.” Turkey has launched its operations in the villages, borders, and districts of the Kurdistan Region. The international environmental organizations and human rights organizations have documented that Turkey used chemical weapons in its attacks many times. Turkey has used chemical weapons 323 times, according to the report of the People's Defense Units.
CPT: 103 civilians were killed, 148 villages were evacuated in five years
Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) released a report in July. 103 civilians were killed, 148 villages were evacuated and more than 500 people were forcibly displaced in five years, according to the report. Ranya is one of the cities most affected by both the use of chemical weapons and military operations. We spoke to the women of Ranyan about Turkish operations in their city.
“Our village was completely evacuated”
Hawjin Mihemed is one of these women. “A state has no right to shell another country’s territory. The countries in the region stay silent against the attacks of Turkey. If they had not remained silent, the people would not have been the victims of the attacks carried out by the Turkish state. This silence shows that they have a deal. Our village was completely evacuated due to the attacks of the Turkish state. We need our village, our crops, and our animals to survive. However, the villages are being evacuated due to the bombardment of the Turkish state.” Hawjin Mihemed said while condemning the silence of the Federal Kurdistan Region government and attacks of Turkey.
“The government shouldn’t stay silent”
Runaz İsmail is a young woman from Ranya. “Our territory is the target of attacks. The regional government has responsibility for the attacks. The government should raise its voice and not allow the attacks. We are Kurdish and we live in this region.”
