Women of Qamishlo tell their stories of resistance against violence

Women of Qamishlo came together at a meeting organized to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, November 25. The women told their stories of resistance against violence.

Qamishlo- Sara Organization for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Sara Women’s Association held a meeting in Qamishlo on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Women attending the meeting told their stories of resistance against violence. Arzo Temo, a member of the Sara Women’s Association, made a speech and said they launched a campaign on October 10, 2021, with the motto, “My voice is your voice.” Arzo Temo stated that they have carried out activities with the Women's Counseling Center and the Şawişka Association within the scope of the campaign.

She told her story against violence

Hilat Muhammed is one of the women attending the meeting. She was subjected to violence but managed to play a role in society by overcoming all obstacles against her. She joined the meeting to share her story. “I am happy to be with you today. We have achieved many gains since the beginning of the revolution. If we share our stories we can get strength from each other. I improved myself in the struggle and I keep improving myself,” she said.

“Women should say no to violence against them”

“Women should resist all forms of violence against them,” Hilat Muhammed said, “Telling the violence we faced under the Baathist regime is easy for us now but we have difficulties in telling and sharing domestic violence we have faced. Women should say no to all forms of violence against them. I try to take part in the Revolution in Rojava and I will keep telling my story.”
