Manbij- Women of Manbij and Zenûbiya Women's Community issued a joint statement condemning the killing of journalist Menal Salih El Mizel, whose dead body was found in Deir ez-Zor. The women demanded the perpetrators be punished severely.

On July 15, 2022, the dead body of 22-year-old Menal Salih El Mizel, a reporter of the Civil Council Press Office in North and East Syria’s Deir ez-Zor, was found in a ruined house near the Mahmoudi camp, an IDP camp in Deir ez-Zor. The journalist was brutally killed.

The statement issued by women is as follows:

“We condemn all forms of violence against women in North and East Syria. Women have always been victims of customs and traditions, wars and patriarchal mentality but we should say ‘stop’ to gender-based violence. We strongly condemn the killing of journalist Menal Salih El-Mizel. We call on the relevant authorities to severely punish the murderers of journalist Menal Salih El Mizel.”

The Internal Security Forces have been reportedly conducting an investigation to find out the killer/killers of the journalist.
