Kobanê – Preparation to celebrate the 76th birthday of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan continues in many places. Kurdish women and people see Abdullah Öcalan's ideology as the alphabet of free life, and celebrate his birthday every year despite all the difficulties.

On July 2, 1979, Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan visited Kobanê and stayed at a house located in the village of Elpelûr, west of Kobanê. The house is now used as a museum.

‘The birth of leader Apo brought light to the darkness’

April 4 is not only the birthday of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan but also the birth of a philosophy, a great cause and the Kurdish people, said Hedle Hesen, Co-chair of the Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM). “As women, we accept and celebrate this day as our second birthday. The birth of leader Apo brought light to the darkness. Today, women have achieved gains and successes thanks to the efforts of leader Apo.”

Hedle Hesen told NuJINHA that they, as women, would struggle until the physical freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan was ensured. “We owe to the efforts of leader Apo’s efforts. The historic call of leader Apo reveals that building a free life is possible together with the resistance of leader Apo and the women’s struggle. As women living in Kobanê, we will celebrate the birthday of leader Apo in the village of Elpelûr.”

‘Leader Apo is the architect of the philosophy of free life’

“Abdullah Öcalan is the architect of the philosophy of free and democratic life,” said Fatma Xelîl, one of the administrators of the Hîlala Zêrîn Movement. “Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan is a leader recognized not only by the Kurds but also in the Middle East and Europe. We must struggle more for his freedom.”

‘We will celebrate his birthday together in 2026’

Fatma Xelîl also said that they, as women, would struggle more to celebrate the birthday of Abdullah Öcalan with him in 2026. “Millions of people dream of seeing leader Apo free. We must resist everywhere to ensure the physical freedom of leader Apo. On April 4, we will demand peace. April 4 is the day of resurrection and the rebirth of humanity.”
