Women journalists strip-searched in prison
Three women journalists, who were sent to prison after being detained while protesting the killing of journalists Cihan Bilgin and Nazım Daştan by a Turkish drone in northern Syria, were strip-searched in prison.
News Center- Journalists Gülistan Dursun, Pınar Gayıp and Serpil Ünal, who were sent to prison after being detained while protesting the killings of journalists Cihan Bilgin and Nazım Daştaş by a Turkish drone in northern Syria, were strip-searched at the Bakırköy Women’s Closed Prison, Eren Keskin, a lawyer and human rights activist, announced on Tuesday.
“They were subjected to violence and held in custody by being handcuffed with their hands behind them for hours,” Eren Keskin wrote on her social media account. “They were subjected to strip searches in prison. They are in good condition. They told me that their arrest is not important, what is important is to keep the killing of Cihan and Nazım on the agenda.”
Press conference for journalists
On December 22, the members of the Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association (MKG), the Dicle Fırat Journalists’ Association (DFG), many journalists and politicians protested the killing of journalists Cihan Bilgin and Nazım Daştan in Istanbul’s Şişli district. However, police attacked them, detaining seven journalists and two politicians. Seven journalists were jailed pending the trial on charges of “propagandizing for an illegal organization”. Today, the MKG and DFG will hold a press conference at the building of the Human Rights Association in Istanbul for the jailed journalists.
