Kobanê- September 1 marks the World Peace Day celebrated by many countries of the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact member countries and some other countries. In these countries, people voice their demand for peace every year on September 1. NuJINHA spoke to Semîra Mehemed Elî, member of the Women’s House in Kobanê Canton, and Hedle Hesen, Co-chair of the Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM) of the Euphrates Region, about the World Peace Day.

 ‘The World Peace Day contains all the colors of peace’

In her speech, Semîra Mehemed Elî emphasized that the World Peace Day is a holy day for people all around the world and said, “However, people cannot celebrate this day with joy when there is war, torture and no free life for everyone. This day is meaningful for everyone, containing all the colors of peace. Living in peace is possible with unity.”

‘The international community should not keep silent against attacks’

“The World Peace Day is important because it reminds us of peace,” Hedle Hesen said in her speech. Pointing out that the Turkish state has violated human rights by carrying out attacks in North and East Syria, she said:

“The Kurdish people live in their homeland in Rojava; however, they are subjected to Turkish attacks in their homeland. These attacks show that there is no peace for them. Everyone has the right to practice their own language, culture and traditions. However, the Kurds are subjected to attacks when they demand their rights. The international community should not keep silent against the ongoing attacks on the region.”
