Police attacked women unfurling a banner reading, “We don’t give up on Istanbul Convention” at Istanbul’s Taksim Square. Three women were taken into custody after being battered by police.
Istanbul - Women have held protests in many cities of Turkey to mark 10 years of the Istanbul Convention, which was opened for signature on May 11, 2011. Members of a women’s rights group called, “We Want to Live Initiative”, unfurled a banner reading, “We don’t give up on Istanbul Convention” at Istanbul’s Taksim Square. Police attacked the women but the women kept protesting saying, “Where were you when women were killed?”
Meanwhile, police tore down the banner and forcibly detained three women. When police forcibly took the detained women into a vehicle, the women shouted slogans saying, “We don’t keep silent, We aren’t afraid, we don’t bow down”.
