News Center_Incidents of Violence against women continue to raise alarm as crimes ending in loss of life recur, amid ongoing calls to strengthen protection mechanisms and legal accountability in the Kurdistan Region.

A woman killed after being stabbed with aknife in the village of Taza Dey, In Kalar district, within the Garmian administration in the Kurdistan Region, while security authorities announced the arrest of a suspect and the opening of an investigation to determine the circumstances and motives behind the crime.

A spokesperson for Garmian's police said the Garmian Police Directorate received a report on the evening of Monday,July 27,regarding a killing inside the village of Taza Dey. Following the report, police patrols and the crime-fighting unit went to the scene to begin preliminary investigations and gather evidence.

He explained that security forces managed to arrest the accused by order of the investigating judge, under Article 406 of the Iraqi Penal Code, noting that investigations are still ongoing in order to uncover the full details of the crime and determine its causes.

According to preliminary available information, the woman died as a result of stab wounds, while no additional details have been released so far regarding the victim's identity or the nature of her relationship with the accused.
