News Center- In 2021, at least 339 women were killed by men in Turkey. 20 of them had got a restraining order before they were killed. Although they had got restraining orders, they were killed by their intimate partners or other family members. In the first four months of 2022, at least 99 women were killed in Turkey by men.

Yeliz Kalkan became one of the women, who were killed by men despite the restraining orders. She was shot to death in Istanbul by Hüdaverdi Öcal, a retired police officer. 

She was first battered and then killed

According to the received reports, Yeliz Kalkan was battered and then shot by Hüdaverdi Öcal in Istanbul’s Beylikdüzü district last night. Seriously wounded Yeliz Kalkan was taken to a hospital; however, she lost her life at the hospital.

After killing Yeliz Kalkan, Hüdaverdi Öcal killed himself. Yeliz Kalkan had got a restraining order against Hüdaverdi Öcal before being killed by him.
