The wildfire that broke out near Kumköy village of Çanakkale’s Eceabat district on Tuesday at around 2 p.m. has not been under control for 14 hours. The wildfire has not been taken under control due to strong winds, the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry said in a statement.

The fire broke out due to stubble burning and spread to the forest, Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı said Tuesday on his social media account. On Wednesday morning, the minister said that an area of ​​575 hectares was damaged due to the fire. “The spread of the fire has been stopped but we cannot say that it is completely under control.”

Settlements evacuated in Dikili

A fire broke out in a grassy area of Çandarlı neighborhood of Izmir’s Dikili district last night and spread to Denizköy, a neighborhood of Dikili. Some settlements in the region have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. “There is also a very strong wind that comes from the sea. The fire is currently ongoing near Çandarlı and Denizköy neighborhoods. The area is large and the fire is spreading. Our teams have been trying to control the fire,” said Dikili District Governor Ali Edip Budan.
