Deir ez-Zor- Protests and activities have been carried out in many countries against the isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. People participating in the protests and activities demand the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan a democratic resolution to the Kurdish question. NuJINHA spoke to women of Deir ez-Zor about the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan.

‘Those who target leader Öcalan are anti-democratic powers’

The Turkish state continues to impose an aggravated isolation on Abdullah Öcalan, said Ayşe Al-Halef, co-chair of the Martyr Ebud Al-Lahda Assembly. “This isolation is unlawful and violates international conventions.” Ayşe Al-Halef believes that the isolation is a betrayal against the human values and principles of democracy.

“There is a direct link between the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and the isolation imposed on leader Öcalan. Leader Öcalan is the first leader who brings people from all nationalities and religions under the umbrella of the system based on democracy. He aims to ensure peace in the Middle East. Those who target leader Öcalan are anti-democratic powers because they aim to control people.”

‘More efforts must be made to spread this system’

Speaking about the system built by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, she said, “This system can end crimes and all forms of violence and oppression in the Middle East. Humanity always seeks peace, coexistence and freedom; however, the capitalist and authoritarian regimes are against these concepts and aim to destroy everything aiming at ensuring them.”

Reem Al-Rawam, Co-mayor of the Hajin Peoples’ Municipality, thinks that the Turkish attacks on North and East Syria aim to break the strong will of people. Emphasizing that the Turkish state aims to depopulate the region, Reem Al-Rawam said:

“The aim of the Turkish state is to destroy the system based on democracy in North and East Syria. The ongoing Turkish attacks, the isolation imposed on leader Öcalan will not stop our struggle for democracy and freedom. We condemn the isolation imposed on our leader and we are determined to struggle against it. We will continue to spread the philosophy and thoughts of leader Öcalan in order to break the isolation imposed on him.”

Reem Al-Rawam called on the international community and international human rights organizations to “take action to end the ongoing Turkish attacks on North and East Syria and fulfill their responsibilities for the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.”
