Hasakah- After the attack that took place in front of the General Directorate of Security of Turkey’s Ministry of the Interior in Ankara on October 1, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan claimed that the assailants had received training in Syria. Since then, the Turkish state has intensified its airstrikes on North and East Syria.
Turkish airstrikes have targeted infrastructure, superstructure facilities and power plants in North and East Syria. One of the targeted places is the Washokani camp, a IDPs camp hosting displaced people of Serêkaniyê (Ras al-Ayn), which was occupied by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions in 2019.
Condemning the Turkish airstrikes, women living in the camp describe the Turkish airstrikes as the continuation of the international conspiracy against Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan on October 9, 1998.
‘We chose to resist’
Xelat Xelîl, a resident of the camp, thinks the Turkish attacks target the security and resistance of the displaced people. “Due to the Turkish attacks, we have lived as displaced people for four years. We have faced many difficulties for four years. We stay here so that we can return to our homeland one day. The Turkish state aims to displace us again by targeting the camp. We are not afraid of the attacks; we chose to resist and we will resist to the end. Today, the children in the camp experienced the occupation day again. Where are the children’s organizations? The silence against the attacks is the continuation of the international conspiracy against Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, the Kurdish people and their identity in 1998. ”
‘Silence means cooperation’
Reacting to the Turkish attacks, Fatma Elî said, “Silence means cooperation.” Speaking on the ongoing Turkish airstrikes, she said, “Children are in fear. My daughter has been crying since the first day of the airstrikes. We condemn the Turkish attacks. The Turkish occupation state aims to change the demographic structure of the region and revive the Ottoman Empire. The international community keeps silent against these attacks. Silence means cooperation.”
