Turkish Ministry of Education approves ‘The Century of Türkiye Education Model’

Turkish Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, has approved “The Century of Türkiye Education Model” despite all the criticism.

News Center- The Turkish Ministry of Education has approved the draft of “The Century of Türkiye Education Model (Türkish: Türkiye Yüzyılı Maarif Modeli)” for compulsory courses at all educational levels despite all the criticism. Children will have to receive religious education starting from the 4th grade in the country.

The new curriculum will be gradually implemented in pre-school, primary school first grade, secondary school fifth grade and high school ninth grade starting from the next academic year, 2024-2025.

According to the approved curriculum, children will have to receive the “Education of Religion and Ethics”, “The Life of Prophet Muhammad” and “The Quran” courses.

The students will receive a total of 72 hours for each course during each academic year while they will receive a total of 216 hours of religious education.

High school students will receive an additional “Basic Religious Knowledge Course” in the 9th grade. The high school students will receive 252 hours of religious education in the 9th grade, and 216 hours in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades.
