Turkish airstrike targets people of Shengal: “They attacked us when we gathered”
Turkish airstrike attacked the people of Shengal on Monday (August 15) while they were waiting for Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. The attack killed two people and wounded three civilians. “Their aim is to displace us from our lands. But we will not leave our lands,” said the women of Shengal.
Shengal- On August 3, 2014, hundreds of Yazidi women were taken captive by ISIS while they were trying to go to the mountains of Shengal from Suka Kevin (Old bazaar). Several days ago, Yazidi women organized a march on this street to protest the genocide against them. The Yazidi women said they wouldn’t allow new genocides during the march led by the Women's Freedom Movement (TAJÊ). Yesterday, a Turkish airstrike targeted the people of Shengal in the same street. In the attack, YBŞ commander Seid Hesen and YBŞ fighter İsa Xwededa were killed and three civilians named Medya Qasim Simo, Şamir Abbas Berces, and Mirza Ali were wounded.
The citizens of Shengal were told the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi would visit them yesterday. The citizens began to make preparations yesterday morning for the visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. Turkish airstrike targeted the citizens when they were taken to the street. A vehicle was targeted in the attack. The citizens tried to help people in the vehicle but they were targeted by Turkish airstrike again.
“They killed our children again”
The Women's Freedom Movement (TAJÊ) member Şemsê Remo was waiting in the street for Mustafa Al-Kadhimi when a Turkish airstrike targeted them. “Every day, they attack us. Their dirty plan has continued since the attack on Til Ezer on August 17, 2007. Where are the people claiming that they struggle for the rights of Yazidi people now? They attacked us again and they killed our children again,” she said.
“We will not leave our lands”
Emşa Şengali was also among the citizens waiting for the Iraqi prime minister. “They want to annihilate us but we will not be annihilated. They want our lands but we will never leave our lands. We were told ‘Al-Kadhimi will come, gather’. We gathered but they attacked us,” she said.
