“Turkey has violated international law”
Prisoners have faced rights violations in Turkey. Kurdish politicians have faced arbitrary detentions and arrests. “Turkey violates international law,” lawyer Roşin Hido said.

Political prisoners are defined as “hostages” due to the practices against many politicians held in prison. Şerin Hesen, one of the executives of the Kongra Star, and lawyer Roşin Hido spoke to JINHA about the rights violations against the political prisoners in Turkey.
“Turkey has violated international law”
“The history of the Turkish state is a dark history. It has built itself by killing people,” Roşin Hido said, “Political prisoners have rights under international law. The Turkish state has violated international law by torturing Kurdish politicians. All politicians are held in prison for terror-related accusations. “
17000 women held in prison
Stating that more politicians have been subjected to arbitrary detentions and arrests since the AKP came to power, Roşin Hido said, “The number of politicians held in prison has increased since the 2016 coup d'état attempt. Recently, the Turkish state has built new prisons and this shows that the Turkish state is unjust and commits rights violations. According to the reports, 17000 women, and more than 500 babies have been held in Turkey’s prisons. Although the European Parliament called on Turkey to immediately release Selahattin Demirtaş, the former co-chairs of the HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) have been held in prison. After the death of lawyer Ebru Timtik in prison, the European Union announced that human rights have been violated in Turkish prisons.”
We will take to the streets
“Kurdish people in Turkey have faced inhumane practices. They cannot even freely speak their mother language. Erdoğan governs Turkey as he wants,” Şerin Hesen, one of the executives of the Kongra Star, said that Turkey has violated the rights of prisoners. “The Turkish government bans politicians, particularly Kurdish politicians, from doing politics. The Turkish state kills prisoners in prisons and then claims the prisoners killed themselves. We will take to the streets in order to be the voices of prisoners.”
