Turkey: 18 women killed by men in October

18 women were killed in October 2021, 19 more died under suspicious circumstances, 72% of women were killed at home, according to the report of the We Will Stop Femicide Platform.

News Center- In the last 19 years, thousands of women have been killed by men closest to them in Turkey. Since Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention, there has been a noticeable increase in attacks against women. According to the report of the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, a women’s rights platform preparing a monthly report on the number of femicides in Turkey, 18 women were killed in October 2021, 19 more died under suspicious circumstances. While the excuses of men for killing 12 women were not reported, six women were killed by men on the excuse that they wanted to make their own decision about their lives; asking for a divorce, refusing marriage, or dating proposal.

“Violence continues in different forms”

“In October 2021, 11 out of 18 women were killed by their husbands, three by their partners, one by her son, one by her ex-partner/ boyfriend, one by her relative. 13 women were killed at home, two in cars, one in the street, one at her workplace, one at a law office. 72% of women were killed at home. Violence against women continues in different forms,” says the report.
