“All preventive measures should be implemented”
The report points out that all preventive measures, especially the articles of the Istanbul Convention, should be implemented in order to prevent femicide. The report criticizes the statement of the police claiming that the number of femicides has decreased since Turkey withdrew from the Istanbul Convention. Turkish Security General Directorate announced that 34 women had been killed before Turkey’s withdrawal from the convention but 25 women were killed after Turkey withdrew from the convention.
“Is 25 femicides in a month something to be proud of for the state? Is 25 femicides a less number for the state? While women take to the streets and shout, “We don’t want to die” to struggle for their lives, 25 femicides after Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention cannot be announced as something to be proud of.”
