News Center- A Tunisian court sentenced Sonia Dahmani, a prominent lawyer and media personality, to two years in prison for her statements criticizing policies against migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, her lawyers said on Monday.

Her lawyers withdrew from the trial after the judge refused to adjourn the session, claiming she was being tried twice for the same act.

Bassem Trifi, one of the lawyers of Sonia Dahmani and the president of the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights, called the verdict “a grave injustice”.

Sonia Dahmani was arrested on May 11, 2024 after making comments during a television appearance that questioned the government’s stance on undocumented African migrants in Tunisia.
