Kobanê – On September 15, 2014, ISIS attacked Kobanê on three fronts. The fighters of the Women's Defense Units (YPJ) and the People's Defense Units (YPG) responded to the attacks and made Kobanê to be known all around the world with their resistance. People from 93 countries took the streets to support the resistance in Kobanê. And November 1 was declared as World Kobanê Day in 2014. After 134-day of resistance, Kobanê was liberated from ISIS on January 26, 2015. Democratic Union Party (PYD) member Almaz Romi spoke to our news agency about World Kobanê Day.

“People around the world support the resistance in Kobanê”

Almaz Roni talked about the resistance in Kobanê against ISIS. “ISIS attacked Kobanê with the support of Turkey. A very serious battle took place in October and November. At that time, ISIS was threatening the whole world. We heard the support of the people from four parts of Kurdistan. The resistance in Kobanê defeated ISIS thanks to the unity of the Kurdish people, the fighters of the YPJ, YPG, and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). This resistance was heard all around the world. The whole world was subjected to the threat of ISIS but a small town made history in fighting ISIS. For this reason, people from many countries supported the resistance in Kobanê and they took the streets on November 1.”

“Turkish state wants to destroy the Autonomous Administration”

Mentioning the treats of the Turkish state, Almaz Roni said:

“The Turkish state continues to pose its threats since the resistance in Kobanê defeated ISIS to destroy the Autonomous Administration system. The main aim of the Turkish state is to take its revenge and to complete its plan. The Turkish state wants to discourage people from supporting the Autonomous Administration with its special war method and drone attacks. However, the people of NE Syria have changed and we definitely trust in our people.”

Call for solidarity

Indicating that Turkey has attacked the Autonomous Administration system because it knows that the Autonomous Administration system is a solution project for all problems in the Middle East, Almaz Romi said, “This project has been developing. Our project will be the solution key for Syria and the Middle East. In this context, we call on our people to protect our system to frustrate the plans of the Turkish state.”

Statements from HDP and DBP about World Kobanê Day

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) issued statements to draw attention to the resistance of Kobanê.

The DBP stated in its statement that the resistance in Kobanê was a great resistance against ISIS, the enemy of humanity and history. “The resistance in Kobanê was carried out by the people of all ages and defeated ISIS.”

“The people of Kobanê rewrote the history of freedom in the 21^st century with their unique resistance lasted for 133 days against the attacks. The fight against ISIS was the inevitable battle between freedom and barbarism, darkness and light, democracy and despotism. The common values of humanity won and the losers were the ISIS mentality and the dark forces behind it,” the HDP wrote in its statement.
