Hasakah – Since January 6th, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham jihadists, backed by the Turkish occupation, have launched an attack on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo. However, the residents of these neighborhoods have made a resolute decision to resist, and their heroism has written a historic epic, preserving the existence and dignity of the Kurdish people.

Figures from the Armenian and Syriac movements affirmed that these attacks aim to dismantle Syrian society, stressing that the solution lies in dialogue and building a democratic Syria that includes all its components. Losnak Kafourian, co-chair of the Armenian Youth Movement, said that Syria has not known peace since the fall of the previous regime until today. She explained, that the policies of discrimination began by targeting the Alawite and Druze sects, then extended to include all groups within the Syrian population. This strategy aimed to incite a sectarian conflict and to break the will of the people. “Today we are witnesses to the systematic attack that targeted the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, which aimed to eliminate the Kurdish presence in Aleppo, but the Kurdish people have proven that they are a resistant people, and have devoted all their efforts to the liberation of all of Syria.”

She explained that the aim of the attacks targeting the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods was to try to break the will, resistance, and struggle. "As Armenian youth, we stand today with the Kurdish people, and we declare that the resistance will not be defeated and that the struggle will continue. On behalf of all youth, we affirm that the solution will not come through bloodshed, but rather through dialogue that paves the way for building a democratic Syria that is inclusive of all its components."

For her part, Silva Berri, a member of the Syriac Youth Movement, condemned the massacres committed against civilians in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, describing them as shameful acts. "The various components of Syrian society have lived together for a long time, and these attacks are nothing but the implementation of foreign agendas that seek to plunge the country into the abyss of war and division," she emphasized, adding that "the discriminatory policies practiced in Sheikh Maqsoud are, in reality, an attack on all components of the Syrian people without exception."
