Gaza - On June 27, the Women’s Affairs Center released a statement condemning the increasing number of femicide cases across Palestine and all around the world. The statement said that violence against women is a violation of women’s right to life and women are deprived of their right to life.

Expressing the concerns about the increasing femicide cases in Palestinian society weaken the fabric of society and the family, the statement said, “The perpetrators of femicide must face the most severe punishment.”

The statement also included the statistics on femicide cases in Palestine in 2021 shared by the Women's Centre for Legal Aid and Counselling (WCLAC). 29 women were killed in Palestine, 17 of them were killed in the West Bank while 12 in the Gaza Strip, according to the statistics.

The statement also stressed that Palestine is one of the state parties to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the Palestinian Authority is obligated to protect women in accordance with the provisions of the international conventions.

In the statement, the Women’s Affairs Center called on the Palestinian Authority to take all possible measures for the elimination of gender-based violence and discrimination.
