The Joint Events Platform announces activities for combating violence against women
The Joint Events Platform of women’s movements in North and East Syria announced the launch of its campaign against violence toward women, with various activities and initiatives running across the region until November 30.
Al-Hasakah — Coinciding with the approaching International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the 16 Days of Activism campaign, the Joint Events Platform for women’s movements and organizations in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, comprising more than 65 women’s institutions and organizations, announced the launch of its campaign against violence toward women.
The platform issued its statement under the slogan: “Together, We Build a Communal Democratic Society to End Violence” on Saturday, November 15, which was read in Arabic, Kurdish, and Syriac.
The statement in Arabic was read by Bushra Muhammad, a member of the Women of Zenobia Coordination Assembly.
The statement said: “The campaign comes at a time when Syria is undergoing a complex political, economic, and social crisis, directly affecting the reality of Syrian women, who continue to face various forms of violence, marginalization, and exclusion—whether through attempts to remove them from the political arena or denying them the right to actively participate in building their country’s future.”
The statement emphasized that Syrian women have proven through their long struggle that they are an active force that cannot be marginalized and are capable of being partners in resistance, nation-building, and decision-making: “Violence against women is not only physical or psychological abuse; any attempt to marginalize them or silence their voices in social and political life constitutes the greatest form of violence against them.”
The platform affirmed: “Empowering women and allowing them to take their natural roles in all fields is the just and proper path toward building a communal democratic Syria that ensures justice, equality, and freedom.” It stressed that the sacrifices of female martyrs in North and East Syria will remain a beacon illuminating the path to freedom and equality: “These women shed their blood defending human dignity and justice, standing at the forefront against all forms of oppression and violence. Their blood is a pledge we hold dear to continue the struggle until full freedom is achieved for all women.”
The campaign will include a series of activities and events across the region, such as forums and dialogue sessions discussing ways to confront violence and exclusion, media and field campaigns under the slogan “Together to End Violence,” artistic and cultural exhibitions commemorating women’s struggle and honoring martyrs, as well as solidarity marches and vigils expressing women’s unity against violence and discrimination.
The platform noted that this campaign represents a global humanitarian outcry to end all forms of violence against women wherever it occurs, and to reinforce principles of social justice and human dignity: “We, at the Joint Events Platform for Women in North and East Syria, affirm that this campaign is not merely local, but part of a global feminist movement fighting for a world free from violence and oppression, where women hold their rightful place in all fields. Together to end violence… Together to build a free, democratic, communal Syria that ensures equality and justice for free women, honoring the sacrifices of the martyrs who paved the way for freedom.”
The statement concluded by calling on women worldwide to actively participate in the campaign’s activities, each from their own position, to amplify the voice of free women and renew the pledge to continue the struggle until a society based on equality is achieved.
The statement also revealed the campaign program, which began on Saturday, November 15, and continues until November 30, including marches at the district level, the launch of a media platform, and a dialogue forum in Raqqa on violence and ways to combat it based on international treaties and agreements.
