The Iranian People Must Be the Voice of Political Detainees and Prisoners
As part of the Tuesdays Against the Death Penalty campaign, activities occurred in 56 prisons, rejecting over 207 executions and warning of escalation in punishments.
News Center – Participants in the “Tuesdays Against the Death Penalty” campaign called on the Iranian people to be the voice of political detainees and prisoners, urging them to raise their voices in protest against repression, injustice, and widespread arbitrary arrests.
The campaign marked its 107th consecutive week of activities inside 56 prisons across Iran. In its statement, the campaign confirmed that the ruling authorities, described as authoritarian, have carried out more than 207 executions in recent months, including two women, reflecting a sharp escalation in the use of severe punitive measures.
According to the statement, based on circulating news and information, Iran witnessed what was described as a “glorious uprising” on December 28, during which the country experienced a widespread crackdown carried out by the security apparatus of the Velayat-e Faqih government. The statement noted that this crackdown not only resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent victims but also led to the arrest of tens of thousands of citizens, including a large number of young people.
The statement emphasized that detainees were subjected to severe physical and psychological pressure aimed at extracting forced confessions, as part of a systematic policy to suppress popular protests. According to the same reports, the authorities also took steps to arrest a number of lawyers, doctors, and medical workers, in an effort to intensify the atmosphere of repression and public intimidation, reflecting the regime’s growing fear.
The statement pointed out that the authoritarian ruling system has executed more than 207 people, including two women, in the recent period. In addition, hundreds of thousands of unidentified detainees face death sentences described as medieval in nature. In this context, Kurdish political prisoner Nasser Bakr Zadeh has been sentenced to death for the third time in recent days and faces a real and imminent danger of execution.
The statement called on the Iranian people to be the voice of political detainees and prisoners, saying:
“We call on the families of detainees to raise their voices in protest against repression, injustice, and widespread arbitrary arrests, and to stand in solidarity with their loved ones. In these circumstances, silence is not an option; the only path to survival lies in shouting and protesting. In these critical conditions, we hope to see a free and equal Iran, free from violence and executions, where the people can determine their own destiny.”
In the 107th week of the campaign, participants in the 56 prisons announced a hunger strike, including prisons such as Evin Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Karaj Central Prison, Fardis Prison in Karaj, Greater Tehran Prison, Qarchak Prison, Khourin and Varamin Prison, Ahar Prison, Arak Prison, Langarud Prison in Qom, Khorramabad Prison, Borujerd Prison, Yasuj Prison, and many others.
