Out of Respect for You"... Nasim Simiyari Responds to Calls of Support and Ends Her Hunger Strike

Nasim Gholami Simiyari, a civil activist held in Evin Prison, ended her hunger strike after receiving messages of solidarity and support from fellow prisoners, activists, human rights defenders, and former political prisoners.

News Center — On October 10, civil activist Nasim Simiyari had announced the beginning of her hunger strike in protest of the sudden cancellation of the conditional release of Fariba Kamalabadi.

On Wednesday, October 22, Simiyari, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison, released a message from inside the prison declaring that she had ended her hunger strike after ten days, responding to appeals from a group of political and civil activists and her fellow inmates.

Simiyari expressed her gratitude for the support of her fellow prisoners and activists, saying:

“I read your loving and responsible messages, and they touched me deeply. Every word reminded me of the days when we turned suffering into resistance together. For me and for my dear Fariba Kamalabadi, enduring the days of imprisonment was not as difficult as witnessing injustice unfold before our eyes. The pain of prison only deepens when you see injustice that goes unanswered. My hunger strike came from this pain — from my inability to remain silent in the face of what should never be considered normal.”

She affirmed that her hunger strike was a response to the injustice faced by the Baháʼí prisoner of conscience, Fariba Kamalabadi:

“Today, after hearing your compassionate voices, my faith in the power of solidarity has grown stronger. This bond itself is an answer to injustice. I believe that empathy, unity, and collective

effort are the paths toward the justice my dear Fariba deserves.”

In conclusion, she stated:

“I had nothing to offer but my life. Now I know that our voices together can break through the walls. Out of respect for you, I am ending my hunger strike.”

Earlier, Simiyari’s fellow prisoners, along with a group of political and civil activists and former prisoners of conscience, had written a letter urging her to end her hunger strike for the sake of her health.
