News Center- Burak Ercan, English teacher and former deputy manager of the Central Anatolian High School in the Cizre district of Şırnak, has been arrested for sexually assaulting 43 students.

Burak Ercan objected to the prison sentence of 22 months and 15 days given to him on March 12, 2022 for sexually assaulting 43 students. The Turkish Court of Appeal upheld the prison sentence after evaluating the objection. Then, he applied to the Turkish Supreme Court. Burak Ercan has been arrested and transferred to a prison after the Supreme Court upheld his prison sentence.

 What had happened?

The legal proceedings against Burak Ercan, an English teacher and former deputy manager of the Central Anatolian High School in the Cizre district of Şırnak province, started in Cizre in 2019 and lasted for three years. The Cizre 1st High Criminal Court sentenced Burak Ercan to 15 months in prison for “simple sexual abuse” of 43 students. Since Burak Ercan was a public official, the prison sentence was increased to 22 months and 15 days.

Over the objections of the students, the retrial against Burak Ercan started. The Cizre 2nd High Criminal Court sentenced him to three years and nine months in prison on charges of “sexually harassment”, “sexual assault”, “sexual abuse” of 43 students.
