Systematic violence causes death of Safiye Ok
The dead body of Safiye Ok was found at her home located in the Nusaybin district of Mardin province. Her relatives told us that Safiye Ok had been subjected to violence by her husband for years. “Her husband battered her and she was seriously injured in the head. She took medicines for a year. Systematic violence caused her death,” her relatives told us.

Mêrdin – Two days ago, the dead body of Safiye Ok, mother of four, was found at her home located in the Akçatarla neighborhood of Mardin’s Nusaybin district. Her dead body, found by her 11-year-old child, was buried in her village after an autopsy. Her death has been recorded as a suspicious death. We spoke to her relatives and people living in her village about the suspicious death of Safiye Ok. They told us that Safiye Ok had been subjected to systematic violence by her husband Ali Ok.
According to her relatives, Safiye Ok was beaten and seriously injured in her head about a year ago by her husband. “Her injury caused brain problems. For this reason, she took medicines for a year before her death. Systematic violence caused her death,” one of her relatives told us.
No legal action has been taken
Her husband Ali Ok claimed that he hadn’t been at home at that time. “I wasn’t at home. I was sitting in the tea house at that time. My neighbors told me the incident,” Ali Ok said in his statement at the police station. No legal action has been taken regarding the allegations of violence against Ali Ok, who was only questioned within the scope of the investigation.
