Susan Saka: The Revival of ISIS Threatens the Entire World

The President of Alevi Federation of Australia, Susan Saka, called on government officials and international civil society organizations to take urgent action, put an end to injustice.

News Center –Susan Saka, President of the Alevi Federation of Australia, confirmed that the crimes committed by jihadists of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and mercenaries of the Turkish occupation, along with ISIS and its allies, constitute genocide that cannot be accepted under any circumstances.

Since January 6, genocidal attacks carried out by jihadists of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and mercenaries of the Turkish occupation have continued against the region of North and East Syria. In response to these attacks, large crowds have taken to the streets across various parts of Kurdistan and in several countries around the world, escalating popular resistance and condemning the silence of the international community.

In a statement to our agency regarding these attacks and the popular resistance in the region, Susan Saka said that the jihadists of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, led by Ahmad al-Sharaa “al-Jolani,” represent a shameful model. She stressed, “We will never accept this. Within just one year, systematic massacres have been committed against Kurds, Druze, Christians, Arabs, secular Sunnis, and especially Alawites.”

She emphasized the seriousness of what is happening in North and East Syria, stating, “We strongly condemn the crimes committed by ISIS and its allies, who promote its ideology, including the killing of women, children, and girls in the streets against the Kurdish people.”

Susan Saka criticized the silence of the international community and expressed her position on this neglect by saying, “I want to say that all those who remained silent—especially heads of state, foreign ministers, as well as the United Nations and Amnesty International, which tried to some extent to raise its voice—are partners in this injustice. These massacres are being committed before the eyes of the entire world.”

“We Have Not Forgotten the Struggle of the YPJ Against ISIS”

Susan Saka expressed her anger at those who remain silent in the face of injustice, saying, “This act is an injustice against humanity, a crime against humanity. We have not forgotten the honorable struggle of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), the Kurdish women who confronted ISIS and Islamist jihadists during the process of building Rojava 12–13 years ago.”

She stressed that the release of ISIS members from prisons is a direct cause of the continuation of massacres in full view of the world, pointing out that there are attempts to create a security vacuum that threatens Kurds and other peoples and beliefs. She considered the release of thousands of ISIS members as opening the door to the repetition of crimes against civilians.

She added, “Today, the Jolani government, with the support of the United States, turns a blind eye to these areas, and in recent days nearly five thousand ISIS members have been released from prisons, returning to the streets and becoming a reason for the continuation of massacres before our eyes.”

As an Alawite and a woman, she said she feels deeply the suffering endured by women: “Above all, I strongly condemn this injustice, this genocide, and this patriarchal system that uses tools such as rape to humiliate women and strip them of their dignity.”

“Support for ISIS Must Be Stopped”

Susan Saka stressed the necessity of ending all forms of political, diplomatic, and military support provided by Turkey to ISIS, saying, “Turkish officials must stop this support. It is important for people in that region to live within a framework of unity, solidarity, and democracy. The massacres in Iraq, Syria, and Iran—especially the fact that imperialist states fuel these massacres, provide weapons, and grant killers diplomatic legitimacy—are an indication that one day this blood will also be spilled on Turkish soil.”

“We Must Protect the Right to Life for Every Human Being”

She pointed to the importance of protecting the right to life, stating, “For this reason, if we want to achieve anything, and if we truly want to build social peace, we must protect the right to life of every human being who dies or is killed beside us, regardless of their gender, identity, belief, or ethnicity.”

She addressed the Australian government and all officials, ministers, and international civil society organizations, as well as Alawite, Kurdish, and other organizations, saying, “Through strong struggle, by building pressure groups and raising public opinion, and especially by going there under United Nations supervision, I repeat my call through your agency to emphasize the preparation of the necessary reports, to prosecute the killers as soon as possible, and to completely stop the support provided by some states to the Jolani government.”

“The Killers Must Be Prosecuted”

Susan Sakka specifically addressed the struggle of women and the resistance led by the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), stating, “Injustice and oppression against the Kurdish people can never be accepted. The right to life must be guaranteed for every human being there—whether Kurdish, Alawite, Druze, Christian, Arab, secular Sunni, or from other religions, even if I do not mention all their names now. This right must be protected as soon as possible. This injustice must stop immediately, and the criminals and killers must be prosecuted before public opinion.”
