“I wanted to work as a nurse; however, I could not find a job. I decided to earn a living by making desserts and cooking traditional food at home. First, I sold desserts and homemade food online. Then, I opened my own shop to sell my products. Even though I am very tired, I love my job. Now, we receive orders from Sulaymaniyah, Ranya and Teqteqe.”

Tamam Ali makes many desserts such as sweet churros, cookies and baklava and stuffed grape leaves. “My sweet churros, cookies and stuffed grape leaves are very popular. I always try to use less sugar in my products because health comes first. For years, I have participated in festivals held in Koya and Teqteqe to market my products.”

Tamam Ali calls on all women to participate in the labor force. “Although I have faced some challenges, I am happy to work. All women should participate in the labor force to achieve their economic independence.”
