News Center_Vehicles belonging to displaced persons from Serê Kaniyê/Rais Al-Ain were vandalized,and some were prevented from entering their homes,following the arrival of the first convoy yesterday,Monday,August 10, as part of the process of residents’return to the city.

The Star Congress issued a statement today,Tuesday,August 11, condemning the escalation of violations against civilians in Serê Kaniyê/Rais Al-Ain.The statement read: “At a time when the return of displaced persons to their areas should have been a legitimate right and the beginning of healing wounds, we follow with great concern the attacks and violations against the first convoy of returning civilians—displaced persons from Ras al-Ayn/Serê Kaniyê—during their return to their homes after years of displacement and forced exile, and the subsequent tensions in several areas."

The statement condemned the attacks on defenseless civilians and the vandalism of their property. "These civilians returned after years of displacement, carrying with them only the dream of stability and rebuilding life. Instead, they were met with waves of threats, violence, property confiscation, and being prevented from exercising their most basic right to a safe and dignified return. Targeting returning civilians is not only an attack on individuals, but on the model of coexistence and the social fabric that we have paid a heavy price to preserve."

The Star Congress renewed its call for an immediate halt to escalation, the adoption of restraint, and the opening of dialogue channels, affirming that continued tension and violence only serve to deepen wounds, increase civilian suffering, and threaten civil peace. It also held the interim Syrian government responsible for protecting returning civilians, ensuring their security and property, and holding those involved in the attacks accountable.

The Congress called on human rights and humanitarian organizations, foremost among them the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, to intervene urgently to document violations and put an end to them, demanding that community leaders and tribal elders in various regions reject hate speech and work toward rebuilding trust among Syrian components.
