Kobani – The city of Kobani is experiencing a rapid deterioration in humanitarian conditions due to the siege, which has led to a severe shortage of food supplies and basic necessities. Local and international calls are increasing for the urgent opening of humanitarian corridors.

In a humanitarian scene reflecting Kurdish unity and transcending geographical borders, an aid convoy from Northern Kurdistan arrived in the city of Kobani in Rojava yesterday, Wednesday, February 11, as part of the “Platform for Protection and Solidarity in the City of Amed” initiative, with the aim of supporting residents who have been besieged for more than three weeks.

For 23 days, Kobani has been enduring extremely difficult humanitarian conditions as a result of a tight siege imposed by jihadists of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, leading to a sharp shortage of food and essential supplies. Meanwhile, local and international calls are growing for the opening of humanitarian corridors to ensure regular access for aid to civilians.

The convoy entered Rojava through the Azaz border crossing and was transported by the Syrian Red Crescent. It consisted of 17 trucks loaded with various food supplies and essential goods, in a step aimed at alleviating the suffering of the besieged population.

This initiative comes within the framework of a broad solidarity campaign launched by residents of Northern Kurdistan to affirm Kurdish unity in the face of humanitarian challenges.

Several public figures accompanied the convoy, including Deputy Head of the Chamber of Traders Erdal Afshar and lawyer Reyhan Gögçek. They emphasized that this initiative embodies the spirit of solidarity and cooperation among different Kurdish regions and reflects the determination of the people to stand by one another in the face of harsh circumstances. Participants stressed that this step is not merely material support, but also a political and social message affirming a shared destiny.

It is worth noting that Kobani continues to witness a rapid deterioration in humanitarian conditions amid the ongoing siege, with residents facing great difficulties in accessing food and medicine. Fears are also mounting over the spread of diseases due to the lack of healthcare services.

Local and international organizations are calling for the urgent opening of humanitarian corridors to ensure the regular and consistent delivery of aid, in order to alleviate civilian suffering and prevent the crisis from worsening.
