Sit-in protest for justice enters its 123rd day

Urfa Bar Association members visited Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who have held a sit-in protest in front of the Urfa Courthouse demanding justice for 123 days. “Don’t leave us alone,” Ferit Şenyaşar told the association members. “Your demand for justice is also our demand. We will struggle with you,” said Mehmet Velet İzol, the head of the Urfa Bar Association.

Riha – The sit-in protest staged by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were killed in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who survived the attack, since March 9 has entered its 123rd day.

In the morning, the Şenyaşar family came in front of the courthouse to keep holding their protest. The family held a placard reading, “A mother has held a sit-in protest in front of the Şanlıurfa Courthouse demanding justice for 123 days. Her husband and two sons were killed at the hospital. No lawsuit has been opened because a member of parliament was involved in the massacre.” Today, Urfa Bar Association members, including the family’s lawyers Hidayet Emenek, Serhat Kurt, and Gökhan Dayık, visited the family.

“Don’t leave us alone”

After the family’s lawyer Gökhan Dayık gave information about the case file, Ferit Şenyaşar told the lawyers what kind of rights violations they have faced. He also reported that the 8th prosecutor took office on July 5, “We went to the prosecution office to talk to him but he didn’t listen to us. We have asked for an appointment with the prosecutor for a month but he hasn’t given an appointment to us yet. My mother is 60 years old, we don’t want to sit here but there is a crime against humanity. The killers are known. The previous prosecutor identified 23 people but was dismissed. We demand legal support. Don’t leave us alone. We demand Urfa Bar Association to call on 80 bar associations.”

“We will struggle with you”

Mehmet Velet İzol, the new head of the Urfa Bar Association, said that they also demand justice to be delivered, “We will continue to support you. Your demand for justice is also our demand. We will struggle with you. I will get an appointment from the prosecutor for you.”
