Shakila Monfared physically assaulted at prosecutor's office

Political prisoner Shakila Monfared was physically assaulted and arrested while visiting the prosecutor's office to request the extension of her medical leave.

News Center- Political prisoner Shakila Monfard, who was temporarily released from prison on June 22 after suffering from stomach problems, was arrested while visiting the prosecutor’s office on Sunday to request the extension of her medical leave.

She wrote a letter in Evin prison, saying that she had been “physically” assaulted by the head of the prosecutor’s office. “The head of the prosecutor’s office handcuffed me behind my back. I was slapped in the ears,” her letter said.

“After undergoing an endoscopy at Mehrad Hospital, I went to the Prosecutor's Office of District 8 but I was informed that I should go back to the prison. My father and I were insulted and beaten by the head of the prosecutor’s office. I suffer from a large stomach ulcer and severe gastroesophageal reflux disease. My treatment has not completed yet and a number of necessary tests for the treatment of my stomach ulcer have not yet been performed. My father was also insulted and beaten for defending me at the prosecutor’s office. The prosecutor, Masoumeh Shaghaghi, is responsible for the violence against me and my father.

In August 2020, Shakila Monfared was arrested by Iranian security forces while leaving home for her social media posts. In September 2020, she was released on bail. She was then sentenced to six years and four months in prison in January 2021 and then to four years and two months. She was arrested again and sent to Evin prison to serve her sentence. In July 2023, she underwent gallbladder surgery and went on medical leave. After her treatment, she was sent back to Evin prison.
