News Center - Save the Children, a humanitarian organization for children based in England, has released a report on the number of children, who were killed and injured in the attacks on North and East Syria in August 2022. At least 40 children were killed and injured in the drone strikes on the cities of North and East Syria between August 1 and August 24.

“On August 6, a Turkish drone bombed a car in the al-Sinaa neighborhood (industrial zone) in Qamishli, resulting in the death of four people, including the two children Ahmad Shibi, 14, and Aheng Shibi, 16. On August 18, a Turkish drone targeted an UN-affiliated center in a village on the road between the city of Hasakah and the town of Tel Tamr in northeast Syria, killing four girls. On August 24 two children aged 12 and 13 lost their lives in a Turkish drone attack on the town of Tel Rifaat,” the report said.

In the report, Save the Children called on parties to de-escalate tension. “We urgently call on all parties to the conflict to de-escalate tensions and to take all possible steps to keep children safe from harm. No child should ever be in the firing line,” said Beat Rohr, Save the Children’s Interim Response Director for Syria.
