TAJÊ commenmorates the tenth anniversary of the burning massacre of 19 Yazidi women

On the 10th anniversary of burning 19 Yazidi women to death, TAJÊ affirmed commitment to remembering martyrs’ resistance, calling on women’s groups to demand justice and hold ISIS perpetators accountable.

Shingal _ On June 3, 2016, ISIS committed grave violations against thousands of civilians, including the burning of 19 Yazidi women in the Iraqi city of Mosul after torturing them for refusing to abandon their beliefs, in a crime that shook the human conscience.

On the tenth anniversary of the massacre of the burning of 19 Yazidi women, the Yazidi Women’s Freedom Movement (TAJÊ)  issued a statement today, Tuesday, June 2, commemorating the Yazidi women who were killed by ISIS, affirming its commitment to remembering their resistance.

The statement read: "In 2014, the Yazidi community suffered a horrific massacre that left a deep wound in its collective memory. Following this genocide, a large number of our Yazidi women and girls were kidnapped."

Call for justice

The statement indicated that this chain of crimes culminated on June 3, 2016, when 19 Yazidi women were burned alive inside a cage in Mosul after being tortured for refusing to abandon their beliefs. It affirmed that Yazidi women continue their struggle: "We renew our pledge to the martyred women and insist on keeping their memory alive. We will not forget them, nor will we allow them to be forgotten. The tragedy that befell our community is unparalleled."

The statement called on women's organizations to raise their voices for justice and to support the cases of Yazidi women who suffered horrific violations at the hands of ISIS, which is responsible for widespread crimes against civilians. It affirmed that the cries of these women will remain present: "We will struggle to hold accountable those responsible for these crimes, those whose hands are stained with the blood of our community. We will seek to achieve justice."
