Ronak Zamani represents Iran on one of the world’s highest peaks.
The Iranian mountaineer won a global gold medal after successfully summiting Mount Manaslu in Nepal, which stands at 8,163 meters high.
News Center-Manaslu is one of the most famous and challenging peaks above 8,000 meters, ranking as the eighth-highest mountain in the world. It is part of the Himalayan range in Nepal.
The Iranian Mountaineering Federation awarded the Global Gold Medal to climber Ronak Zamani, from the city of Sanandaj in Eastern Kurdistan, for her successful ascent of Mount Manaslu, which rises 8,163 meters above sea level. She achieved this feat in early September in Nepal, earning recognition for representing Iran in one of the world’s most significant mountaineering achievements.
A formal welcoming ceremony was held for her on Sunday, November 9, in the Gulan area of Sanandaj, attended by the city’s Mountaineering Federation, several climbers, civil activists, and many women from the city celebrating this remarkable sporting success.
Ronak Zamani became the first Kurdish woman to achieve a global milestone in mountaineering, successfully reaching the summit of Manaslu — a peak that has claimed the lives of 52 climbers in previous expeditions.
Last year, Ronak marked another major success by scaling Khan Tengri in Kazakhstan, becoming the first Kurdish woman to climb a peak exceeding 7,000 meters.
Climbing Mount Manaslu is known for its extreme difficulty due to harsh weather conditions and frequent rock and snow avalanches. The best climbing seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is more stable and the risk of storms is lower.
