As Kongra Star, we have held 33 workshops for men to raise awareness about violence against women and femicide. In 2023, we held our 9th congress and determined a roadmap for the next two years,” said Rîma Mehmûd.

‘Women were targeted’

Pointing to the ongoing Turkish attacks on North and East Syria, she said, “Throughout 2023, the Turkish state carried out many attacks on North and East Syria. Many pioneering women were targeted in the attacks. The Turkish state aims to destroy the gains of the women's revolution and break the will of women. Despite all the attacks, we do not give up on realizing our dream of freedom. We have also supported the international campaign launched to demand the physical freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. We have held many activities and events to protect the isolation imposed on our leader and to demand his freedom.”

 Projects for 2024

Kongra Star attaches particular importance to education of women and girls. Despite the Turkish attacks, it has held many educational workshops and courses in North and East Syria. “At the congress, we discussed how to develop more projects for women in 2024. One of our projects for 2024 is the building of villages to promote women’s economic empowerment. In 2024, we will carry out many activities and events to demand freedom of leader Abdullah Öcalan.”

‘We will strengthen our struggle’

“We attach importance to awareness-raising activities for women’s freedom, to ensure gender equality and achieve women’s rights. We will never surrender to the Turkish attacks,” Rîma Mehmûd said. “In 2024, we will keep making efforts in North and East Syria. We aim to ensure equality and justice in society.
