“Kobanê is the castle of women because…”

Jîlan Ûmûd, a young woman living in Sulaymaniyah, spoke to NuJINHA about the Revolution in Rojava led by women and said:

“This revolution was led by women, particularly by the members of the YPJ (Women's Defense Units). All young women played an important role in the revolution. And they still play an important role in fighting occupation attacks in our region. All women can resist as the women in the region have resisted.”

Indicating that Kobanê is a symbol the revolution and revolutionary women, Jîlan Ûmûd said, “The women of Rojava have triggered the potential of women over the world. The resistance in Kobanê paved the way for the Revolution in Rojava. For me, Kobanê is the castle of women because Kobanê was liberated by the resistance of women.”

“Rojava is a role model for the intellectual development of women”

Şanû Enwer, another young woman living in Sulaymaniyah, spoke about the power and will of women in the Revolution in Rojava and said, “The women can also realize a revolution in Southern Kurdistan, liberate their cities and country and gain their freedom. The self-government system protects women’s rights, nature and democratic nation. The establishment of the democratic system in Rojava Kurdistan has great effects on women’s rights. However, the women living in the Kurdistan Region are deprived of most of their rights. We can implement the democratic system in Rojava in our region and increase the women’s participation in all spheres of life, including in politics and military, in this way.”

The young women of Sulaymaniyah told NuJINHA that they will keep following the developments of the revolution with great interest.
