Response from KCK to Abdullah Öcalan's call: We are determined to take the step
“We are determined to take the step that Leader Apo has asked us. However, this process cannot proceed unilaterally and only with the steps taken by us,” said the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council Co-Presidency.

News Center- The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council Co-Presidency has issued a statement as a response to Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan’s video message published on Wednesday.
“We are determined to take the step Leader Apo has asked of us. We are taking this new step by thinking of our people and all peoples. However, it should be known that the process cannot proceed unilaterally and only with the steps taken by us. Accordingly, the process must be approached correctly and the necessary steps must be taken,” the statement said.
The statement emphasized that the new call by Abdullah Öcalan is a call for the advance of the Peace and Democratic Society process. “This call by Leader ABDULLAH ÖCALAN was published yesterday and thus the public became aware of the content of the call. First of all, we are very pleased that Leader Apo’s voice and image have reached the outside. We believe that it also pleases our people and all friends. We would like to take this occasion to respectfully greet Leader Abdullah Öcalan, our long-missed comrade, with longing, love, and gratitude.”
Recalling the historic “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan on February 27, 2025, the statement continued as follows:
“This call is a historic call, just like the call on February 27. In this historic call, Leader Apo summarized the goals and principles of the 'Peace and Democratic Society' process, stating the progress made so far and what the next steps will be. He once again clearly expressed his commitment by saying, ‘I continue to support the Call for Peace and Democratic Society on February 27, 2025.’ As the Freedom Movement, we have discussed this historic call from Leader Abdullah Öcalan. We feel it necessary to share the results of our discussion transparently with our people and the public.
We expressed our full support for the 'Peace and Democratic Society' process announced on February 27, 2025, and stated that we would fully fulfill our responsibilities. Until now, we have made strategic decisions and taken steps by believing in the ‘Call for Peace and a Democratic Society’ and the historical responsibility we feel for the realization of the goals set forth in this call. Our people have also stood by this historic process developed by Leader APO with great attention, sensitivity, and belief. However, the Republic of Türkiye and its current government have not taken any steps in response to the requirements of the process and the concrete steps taken by us. We see and know this. Despite this, we have stood by this process because we believe in the goals outlined in the 'Call for Peace and Democratic Society’. We have striven to maintain this stance with great sensitivity. We believe our efforts are being seen. Now, in response to this new historic call, we state that we will take the concrete step that Leader Apo has asked us. Just like our previous steps, we will take this concrete step out of our loyalty to Leader Abdullah Öcalan and our belief that the Democratic Society Manifesto will lead to the liberation of our people and humanity.
In his June 19, 2025 call, Leader Apo highlighted the necessary steps to be taken and called on everyone to fulfill their responsibilities, outlining how the process will proceed. The determinations of Leader Apo must be understood and taken seriously. This call is not just to us but to the state, everyone having responsibilities, especially the parliament, and all political actors.
Now, we are determined to take the step that Leader Apo has asked us. We are taking this new step by thinking of our people and all peoples. However, it should be known that the process cannot proceed unilaterally and only with the steps taken by us. Accordingly, the process must be approached correctly and the necessary steps must be taken. Therefore, the captivity of Leader Apo, the architect of the Peace and Democratic Society process, must end. Because this process can only advance and achieve its goal with the freedom of Leader Apo. Otherwise, it is impossible to progress further by maintaining the current conditions. Secondly, necessary steps must be taken for democratic politics and holistic law. Political actors and the parliament must take an initiative and steps to advance. A meaningful process and advance can only be possible under these conditions.
In conclusion, as we express our determination to take this historic step, we feel the need to reiterate what must be done with the same sense of responsibility. We hope what we have expressed is understood and acted upon accordingly. As we have done so far, we are taking this step believing that it will bring great gains for our people. We maintain our belief that our steps will be reciprocated and that the 'Peace and Democratic Society' process will succeed.”
