Report: Security and Econmic Fears Drive Thousands of Yemenis to Displacement

A total of 1,183 families comprising 7,098 people have been displaced in Yemen since the beginning of this year up to June 20, according to a report by (IOM), with Marib accounting for 61% of new cases.

News Center_ Security fears, deteriorating economic conditions, and natural disasters have triggered new waves of displacement within Yemen, Particularly In Marib, Al-Hodeidah, and Taiz, where repeated attacks, lack of income, and flood threats have driven thousands of families to leave their homes in search of safety.

The International Organization for Migration(IOM)issued a report yesterday, Monday, June 22, documenting the displacement of 1,183 families comprising 7,098 people during the period from January 1 to June 20 of this year.

According to the report, Marib accounted for approximately 61% of total new displacement cases, followed by Taiz, then Hadramaut, Al-Hodiedah, Lahj, Al-Dhale’, Al-Jawf, Shabwa, and Al-Mahra.

Last week, the organization recorded the displacement of 17 families (102 people), a 43% decrease compared to the previous week.

Newe displacement cases were concentrated in Marib, Al-Hodeidah, and Taiz, with security concerns, economic conditions, and natural disasters cited as the primary causes. The organization noted that an additional 11 displaced families were identified in Al-Hodeidah and Marib, and these figures have been added to the cumulative total displaced persons since the beginning of the year.
