Remains of Kurdish singer Ayşe Şan buried in Amed

The remains of Kurdish singer Ayşe Şan were buried in Amed on Wednesday, in accordance with her will. “Today, Ayşe Şan is at home, in her homeland, in her motherland,” said Serra Bucak, Co-mayor of Amed Metropolitan Municipality.

Amed (Diyarbakır)- The remains of Kurdish singer Ayşe Şan, also known as “the Queen without a crown”, were brought from Izmir to Amed early Wednesday. The funeral ceremony was held at the Yeniköy Cemetery in Amed with the participation of People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MPs, co-mayors, writers and the representatives of NGOs.

The coffin of Ayşe Şan was taken from the morgue at the cemetery and carried by women to the Yeniköy Cemetery. People attended the funeral chanted “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” slogans and carried photos of Ayşe Şan.

‘Her longing has ended today’

Murat Kersen, son of Ayşe Şan made a speech at the cemetery, saying, “Ayşe Şan now belongs to the Kurds, to her fellow citizens.”

“I think her longing has ended today,” politician Yüksel Avşar said at the funeral. “I wish we had brought her here 30 years ago.”

Zeynep Dinçer made a speech on behalf of the Kurdish Women's Union (Yekitiya Jinên Kurd) and thanked those who had made efforts to bring the remains of Ayşe Şan to Amed.

Amed Metropolitan Municipality Co-mayor Serra Bucak thanked the Yekitiya Jinên Kurd and all people, who brought Ayşe Şan to Amed, and said, “Today, Ayşe Şan is at home, in her homeland, in her motherland.”

The funeral ceremony ended after the remains of Ayşe Şan were buried at the Yeniköy Cemetery.
