Regional Council of Lombardy calls for immediate release of Pakhshan Azizi
In a letter to the Iranian Ambassador in Italy, the Regional Council of Lombardy calls for the immediate annulment of the death sentence handed down to Kurdish journalist Pakhshan Azizi.
News Center- The Regional Council of Lombardy (Italian: Consiglio Regionale della Lombardia), the legislative assembly of Lombardy, Italy, sent a letter to the Iranian Ambassador in Italy, condemning the Iranian Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the death sentence handed down to Pakhshan Azizi, a Kurdish journalist and humanitarian worker.
The letter called the trial against Pakhshan Azizi as “a grossly unfair trial” and said, “She helped women and children fleeing ISIS-occupied areas in northeastern Syria and northern Iraq for years. She was subjected to an enforced disappearance, torture and other ill-treatment in detention.”
In the letter, the regional council called for the immediate annulment of the death sentence handed down to Pakhshan Azizi and her unconditional release.
