Rakel Dink: We have been breathing the same air as murderers for years
“We have been breathing the same air as murderers for years,” said Rakel Dink, evaluating the release of Ogün Samast, the murderer of her husband Hrant Dink.
News Center- The Hrant Dink Foundation has held a two-day international conference titled “Minority Rights in the Centennial of the Republic” in Istanbul. Rakel Dink, the wife of Agos newspaper's editor-in-chief Hrant Dink who was killed by Ogün Samast in front of the newspaper building on 19 January 2007, made the opening speech of the conference.
In her speech, Rakel Dink evacuated the release of Ogün Samast on Wednesday.
She said: “We have been breathing the same air as murderers for years. Once again, he shoved injustice in our faces and sent us back to the most difficult days of mourning. Don’t we know that we breathe the same air as the murderers of Sabahattin Ali, Ilhan Erdost, Zeki Tekiner, Uğur Mumcu and Musa Anter? The issue is never about whether this or that person gets more than 3-5 years prison sentence. Since the first day, we have said that darkness must be investigated. We have said that justice in this case is a must for the democratization of the country.”
