Racist attack on Kurdish family in Konya kills 7

Seven members of the Dedeoğulları family were killed in a racist attack that occurred in the Meram district of Konya province yesterday evening. The family had been subjected to a racist attack by a group of 60 but police did nothing to protect them.

News Center- Serpil Dedeoğulları, Serap Dedeoğulları, İpek Dedeoğulları, Yaşar Dedeoğulları, Barış Dedeoğulları, Metin Dedeoğulları and Sibel Dedeoğulları were killed yesterday evening in a racist attack in the Meram district of Konya province. The lawyer of the Kurdish family Abdurrahman Karabulut reported that six of the family members were shot 16 times.

The family had been targeted by a racist attack before

On May 12, the members of the Dedeoğulları family were attacked by a racist group of 60 people with knives, stones, and sticks. “We are nationalists. We will not allow you to live here,” the racist group threatened the family. Five persons were detained for attacking the family but were released later on the grounds of “inadequate evidence”. After the first racist attack against them, the family members went to the prosecutor's office and demanded protection but their demand was rejected.

Killed family members will be buried today

Last night, the dead bodies of İpek (mother), Yaşar (father) and their children Serpil, Serap, Sibel, İpek, Barış and Metin Dedeoğulları were taken to Konya City Hospital for autopsy. The killed family members will be buried in Saraçoğlu Cemetery in Konya’s Karatay district today.

Lawyers cannot receive any information

Lawyers, members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Law Commission and Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) went to the scene to receive information about the investigation. The lawyers stated that autopsy reports were not given to them and they were not allowed to go to the crime scene.
