Purple cloth protest by CHP female MPs
Republican People's Party (CHP) female MPs covered the parliamentary rostrum with a purple cloth in protest of the government's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention.
Ankara – Yesterday, the Republican People's Party (CHP) submitted a parliamentary motion on the Istanbul Convention withdrawal but the motion was turned down. CHP MP Gülizar Biçer Karaca wanted to address the parliament to explain the reason behind their motion. She walked to the parliamentary rostrum along with other CHP female MPs and they covered the rostrum with a purple cloth to protest the Istanbul Convention withdrawal.
Deputy Parliament Speaker Süreyya Sadi Bilgiç demanded the purple cloth to be removed, and when his demand was rejected by Karaca, he adjourned the session twice and slapped Karaca with a warning.
