Amnesty International Austria urges immediate freedom for Kurdish activist
As part of a renewed campaign defending activist and political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi, Amnesty International Austria issued a statement and online petition calling for the cancellation of her death sentence and her unconditional release.

News Center – The initiative announced by Amnesty International’s Austrian branch comes amid growing international concern over the detention conditions of activist Sharifeh Mohammadi, who faces a death sentence after a trial described as unfair, due to her peaceful work defending women’s and workers’ rights in Iran.
The campaign defending the activist and political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi announced yesterday, Friday, September 12, that Amnesty International Austria had taken a new step by issuing a statement and launching an online petition calling for the immediate cancellation of her death sentence and her unconditional release.
Amnesty International Austria emphasized in a statement that peaceful activism is not a crime, noting that Sharifeh Mohammadi has worked for women’s and workers’ rights but now faces the death penalty. The organization called on individuals and civil society groups to protest this unjust ruling by signing the petition and submitting requests to authorities in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The organization explained that Sharifeh Mohammadi was arbitrarily detained, subjected to torture, and sentenced to death following an unfair trial on charges of “rebellion,” a sentence upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court in August.
Intelligence agents had arrested Sharifeh Mohammadi at her home and transferred her from Lakan Prison in Rasht to Sanandaj Prison, then back to Lakan Prison in Rasht. She endured both psychological and physical torture during her detention in Rasht and Sanandaj, and was sentenced to death in a ten-minute Revolutionary Court hearing in Rasht on charges of “rebellion” through her membership in an opposition group.
