News Center- On November 27, 2023, political prisoners in 104 prisons across Turkey started a rotational hunger strike, demanding “freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and a resolution to the Kurdish question”.
According to the Çukurova Association for Solidarity with Families of Prisoners and Convicts (Çukurova TUAY-DER), the hunger strikers in the Antalya Manavgat High Security Prison have been subjected to many right violations and psychological violence.
When hunger strikers go out their wards, they are insulted in the corridor by the wardens saying, “You are terrorists, do not leave your wards”, the Çukurova TUAY-DER said.
The Çukurova TUAY-DER also reported that the wardens left trash in wards of hunger strikers. When hunger strikers complain about this practice, they are told, “Don’t speak, you do not have the right to speak”.
According to the Çukurova TUAY-DER, the hunger strikers are held in solitary confinement and subjected to psychological violence to end their hunger strike.
